Random Stuff for Your Leap Day

My brain is so full of stuff that I want to tell you and none of it is important.  I wish I could have you over for some herbal tea and cookies.  It would start a little awkward and quiet but then pretty soon we would be laughing tears down our faces as we shared the crazy things our kids said when they were toddlers.

1. First of all, I’m having a little “Fixer Upper” withdrawal.  I’m too cheap to buy season 3 and I’ve watched seasons 1 and 2 several times.   So I went to Youtube.  They have some poor quality pirated episodes there, but EVEN better are the official show outtakes on the HGTV channel.  And just in case you’re wondering, I mostly listen to shows and don’t really watch them.  That’s how I can log so many show hours and still get my chores done. That’s also why I can watch the same thing over and over.  I’ve never seen  most of it so it seems somewhat new every time.  Anyhoo, I embedded one episode of outtakes and you’ll be able to find the rest from there.

2. Leap Year is currently my favorite movie and it’s up on Netflix right now. I’ve watched it twice recently. The second time I actually watched it, which is really hard for me to do.  Darren has promised to watch it with me again tonight after we take the kids to Chick-Fil-A for receipt day. That’s the day you buy your food and keep your receipt and then come back later and get everything on your receipt for free.  After dinner the boys are going to Boy Scouts, then I’m teaching Heidi how to cut hair AND we are pricing our garage sale items…..then it’s movie time.  It sounds busy when I type all that stuff out, but that’s just a normal evening for us.  Oh and I almost forgot…grades are due tomorrow.  So that will squeeze in somewhere.

3.  I’m amazed at bloggers who show you plans for their house projects and then actually do them within a reasonable amount of time.  Like the Lettered Cottage who showed us her plans for the shutters then revealed them today.  I’m not that kind of a blog….at least not until I figure out how to make money from my blog so I can afford the materials for my projects.  LOL, just realized that there might be a REASON I don’t make money on my blog…..la la la.  I’m not going to think about that.

So do you do anything special on leap day?

We don’t typically do anything special, but my mom surprised the boys with special leap day cookies…snicker doodle cookies with sour gummy frogs on top. What a fun treat for them!

Rochelle, Those cookies are really clever. Now that you bring up the frog theme, it brings up all sorts of ideas to jump with the “leap” theme. I bet those cookies were adorable.

Buy season 3! I’m so cheap about these things, but I say find it in your budget! 🙂 Not only are the shows fabulous and so funny…nobody seems to take God’s name in vain on those shows and they are just so wholesome. Watching other shows after theirs is so disappointing. I say feed the family beans and brown rice for a few meals and buy Season 3 just to support such wholesomeness, but also to inspire yourself. My goal right now is to add on a sunroom and porch to our house right now that looks Fixer Upperish all while doing it using very little money (while paying off our mortgage early.) Sorry to your family about the beans and rice (except my kids like them and also Lentil Rice Casserole.) Worth it! 🙂

Julie, I bought season two on Amazon. that’s why I was hesitant to buy season three. I already splurged to get season two and it wasn’t that long ago.

Those outtakes were awesome, haha! His wife is very patient. We didn’t do anything for leap year but I read today on a blog about a mom who dug up a time capsule her kids made last leap year and made a new one for the next leap year. I thought that was cute!

Angela, I hope you know I was teasing–mostly! ;)–later, I felt bad for pressuring you to buy the 3rd season. I guess I felt no qualms about buying it since I have not have had Netflix or cable or satellite or anything like that for years and years. I didn’t realize that you mostly listen to the show. I really watch it intently to see how the houses look. For example, I never liked ranch-style houses before (I lacked the vision.) However, now I might consider buying one. I was actually wondering if any of your ebooks tell specifically what you did during those six months when you were getting out of debt. (To me lots of things are about inspiration as much as anything. If I can read or watch something that really inspires me to save more money it’s worth it to me all the while being careful with money.) I like how you stick to your guns and your budget. 🙂

Lol, Liz. Of course! And I will buy it, just later. I totally agree with you about supporting family friendly programming. My favorite part of the show is how much Chip loves Jo and the kids. And the crazy stuff he does. P.s. I wrote about specifics on how we got out of debt in the article I send out to email subscribers but there are some details I could drill into. That’s a great topic for March!

  7. Liz says:

Okay. I have read and reread that trying to get some tips. I would love any and all details! Maybe I will look up some of your interviews. Thanks!
